Dont know! I only see harm, when siao on people keep on telling the boys it is for honor and glory. But it is actually for YOUR OWN honor and YOUR OWN glory only. Personally, I think it is quite unlucky to be selected. Unless some1 wans to sign on. But even when they sign on it is really of a "no-choice" choice.

Lokey, to answer your question, my user was only created 30th dec, so how to answer before that? Lol. And yes, dentists and lawyers, may not earn as much as what people thinks. Even a non-specialised medical doctor is hard pressed to earn a 5-digit salary here. We are not talking about the professions top earners, but the average. My dad was a man in the army (during his time officers and specs are largely regulars). So to mindef and to me, it’s a bit idiotic to pay a rifleman $xx,xxx to chiong a 2-3 week ict. Unless you are an officer holding a high post eg CO of a ns battalion.
It is ok. Most people ask such questions for fun only in this thread. In fact, soldiers are trained not to ask questions and just follow orders. So they failed by asking too much questions when they actually want to sign on the first place.
I WAS a MO PA/Clerk in the Navy. When I reviewed my own posting just now. I dont think I was wrong. A person with heart murmur can be Pes B1, and Pes A/B1 person can be a commando. This is right, on the medical perspective.
Do you even realise that for IPPT, service and combat person needs to achieve B+21 for 5 stations for gold, whereas the same person (as a commando/diver) need to get B+23 for silver. From my shoes, I (as a service men) actually need to get a gold, if I am a commando. That person will be losing $200 every year, for just being in that vocation!
That is how I do the posting in my past (cose I am the one who is doing it). May be SAF is having a lack of manpower now. What I see is in my ex-reservist unit now, several of my platoon mates own a bus company, dentists, resturants, leather company? and ... May be medic worth more than rifleman in the SAF than we think.The doctors get called back regardless of their age, earning and pes status.

Honour and glory to our nation, our formation. Some of us takes soldiering seriously. I can see why you're not a red cap. And do you know more often than not, a commando(I dunno about the divers) can get gold for ippt? Apparently they feel that we should have a standard above the rest, and we will happily oblige. Even now, i am still required to run 9.14 mins to get my $400, and I have got it for the past 2 years as a nsman.

Anyway i've got another question. My VA is coming up in a few weeks and i'm currently studying in ITE now, graduating somewhere around march. I'm then going to apply into a local polytechnic in april and that means i'll have to defer ns once again. Now let's say if i've passed the assesment. Will they still send the enlistment letter telling me so? If not, how will i know if i've got accepted?

James if you defer ns, no enlistment letter will be sent to you in the deferment period. In your case for the next 2-3 years. Also, places in cdo cannot be reserved, thus it is unlikely you will go to the formation after deferment.

Oh..that's real disheartening.. Do you know when will they notify you if you have been accepted or not? As in how many months after the VA itself?

They will not inform you on whether you are selected. Rather, 3 months before enlistment, they will sent you your enlistment letter, on where to report. For the mainstream, it's tekong island. Commando trainees will be pasir ris camp. If you defer, the va will not be valid as I think it has an expiry date. I.e if you're not enlisting that year, they will not use that results for future assessment. You have to be randomly selected for va again. It's 250 selected/1500 called for va/ 20,000 NSF a year.

Yo broz, i just wanted to ask wheather if Ndu or Cdo enlistees ever get to set foot on Tekong. I do already know that they go through their very own BMT but i wanted to know if their BMT would be conducted on Tekong Resort.
Also would enlistees get involved in a PoP similar to the normal BMT enlistee after his graduation from Tekong?

It really depends on the present batch of people over there now as there might be a change of managment styles between different commanders-in-charge. -

Hi Have been posted to 3 Guards after BMT. I am wondering what would happen if I happen to fail GAIT, and cannot get the beret? Would I be reposted out or would i continue the training with my other mates who got the beret?

Hey guys i recieved the vocational letter for ndu, i am really interested and determined to get in and i'm almost-fit, what can i do to get a higher chance of getting in? It is due to the fact that i actually wanted to defer ns for my studies but i understand that this opportunity won't wait, if i don't get ndu, there's no point for me to not to defer. So any advice?

um alright, so sorry if I missed it but I just wanna ask, can I volunteer to be a Commando? with all my respects, don't tell me it's tough or whatsoever, I wish to be a real soldier, so please. I mean Can i just approach CMPB then tell them I wish to volunteer to be a Commando? does that work? please give me some advise regadring. Thank you very much :)
